Airbnb Kids Kit

Airbnb Kids Kit - STRATEGY & DESIGN

Strategizing ways to help families with young children feel like they belong while traveling with Airbnb.

As an Airbnb Fellow, I was granted resources for an open ended fellowship project alongside my other project duties—serving as a chance for the fellow to create something that reflects both Airbnb's values and the fellow's own interests.

Given my interest in design for kids, I chose to focus my project on family travel with Airbnb. I spent my time conducting research and compiling a strategy for how Airbnb could improve the experience for families traveling on the platform. Alongside the research pitch, I created a gift set to send to exceptionally family-friendly hosts.

Identifying the substantial benefits of staying in an Airbnb for family travelers, as opposed to a hotel.

I designed and created physical prototypes of a gift that could be given to hosts of exceptionally family-friendly listings. The kit consisted of three key parts—

A wooden puzzle with shapes based on actual family-friendly Airbnb listings, a matching card game that educates kids on homes from around the world, and a booklet for the host to include the best family attractions in the city. The puzzle pieces fitting together, symbolized the core of Airbnb’s mission — belonging.

Through interviews and user journey mapping, I identified the key pain points along the journey specific to family travelers, and proposed three high level solutions to ease those pain points.
